Originally the location for an abbey, the palace was built adjacently. Throughout its history, the palace has witnessed battles, murders and other events, shaping Scottish and British history. Today, it is still a Royal Residence. Members of the Royal family may stay in the residence when carrying out official duties. Additionally, important (political) events may be held in the palace as well.
