Palais des Papes

Visitors like to explore the city of Avignon. The view from the river Rhône, the famous bridge and song, but also the picturesque streets and squares contribute to the city’s attractiveness. Many tourists will also visit the Papal palace, or at least taking pictures of this stronghold. It is the world’s biggest Gothic palace and has an image of a formidable stronghold. 

The palace hosted several ‘anti-popes’ during the 2nd schism. Hence the thick walls and imposing towers. Within the palace, tourists will be impressed by the size of many rooms, halls, and some of the original decorations. 

Guided tours are provided, and groups can book rooms for their events. All-in-all, this palace may be a monument, yet also still a center of activities.
