Bauskas pils

The castle, strategically situated on a peninsula was meant to protect the border of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It should also offer protection to the trade route between Riga and Lithuania. For a while, it was a Ducal residence and faced the wars with the Swedish and the Russians.
