The castle is situated on a hill and overlooks the town of Braunfels. The castle is still owned by the family of Oppersdorff zu Solms-Braunfels. A famous scion of the family is Amalia of Soms-Braunfels; who married Prince Frederic-Henry of Orange-Nassau.
