Klaipėdos pilis

Klaipèda castle was commissioned by the Teutonic Order and overlooked the Baltic Sea. Until the 19th century, it was of importance, due to this strategic situation. Modernizing and expanding the castle happened numerous times throughout its history. It served its defensive purposes during wars with the Teutonic Order, the Swedish, and the Russians. Disrepair in the 18th century resulted in demolishing of the castle. Excavations have taken place and a museum has been constructed. The castle has accommodated many events as well, thereby becoming a popular tourist attraction.
