Kaunas castle

Kaunas castle is strategically situated near the river junction of the Neris- and Memel rivers. The castle served as an outpost for the city of Vilnius. The Teutonic order managed to take the castle after a siege of 3 weeks. Afterward, both the Lithuanians and Teutonic order would battle to regain the castle again. Later on, the castle would be used in the wars with Sweden.

For many years, the castle was abandoned. Lately, excavation took place, and elements of the castle were renovated. One can visit the castle today and enjoy both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
